Where’s all the BULSHIT?

It’s December 1st, so it’s time for the announcement of the nominees for the 2016 Baltimore United Local Stage and Hidden Independent Theater (B.U.L.S.H.l.T.) Awards, right?  That magical time in January where we acknowledge the best and brightest on the Baltimore small theater scene?  Our theater prom, where we drink all the cheap red wine we can handle (turns out it’s A LOT, I love you guys) and clap super hard for everyone no matter what?

Well.  Yes, and no.

This year, we will be holding the 2016 B.U.L.S.H.I.T. Awards (I think, as of this moment anyway) but the plan is to do it in March.  We were kind of thwarted by snow two years in a row, and everyone dealt, but we started thinking that perhaps the gods were trying to fucking tell us something, so we should maybe stop being stupid oracles and listen.

But it’s more than that, and I want to be honest with you, my friends (well, mostly my friends).  I’m tired.  I’m tired this year.  I know I’m not alone in feeling like this, but it doesn’t make it any less true.  I need some time to re-think and re-group.  We have parted ways with a company that was our non-profit partner last year, and have, as a result, probably lost our space, in addition to our ticket vendor shutting down, so we need to do some planning.  And what with the election, and it’s implications for the arts and, like, fucking everything else we hold dear and true and right, and then there’s the great but sometimes exhausting feedback we get here at the Oracle….well.  I need to take some time and some stock.

I do still want to hold the Awards, as long as you guys feel it’s something good for our community and it never turns super divisive or feels bad.  BULSHIT started as a silly post on this website in 2013, and grew into an event that I truly look forward to.  I like loving on you.  I like the idea that our scene is important, that our work is important.  I like that the proceeds from the event feed the Actors Need a Living (A.N.A.L.) Fund, and that we can make a gesture towards payment for actors on the small stage, a cause we really believe in.  I like the fact that we come together from tons of different small theater companies, to talk and goof off and dress up and share.  I like seeing you.  I like hearing what you have to say.

You know I never use one word when I can use twenty, and this post is proof.  TLDR?  We’re holding BULSHIT in March, at least, we are as of this moment, if I can find a space.  The announcement of the categories will come on December 15th and the nominees will be announced on New Year’s Day, January 1st.  Tickets will on sale for nominees on January 1st, general tickets will go on sale January 15th and we’ll sell ’till we’re sold out.

Love to all y’all – TBO
